Red Alert 3: After Patch 1.13 game Crashes to Desktop during loading

I recently installed Red Alert 3 and started playing it. In the past, I have played a previous sequel of this game but I did not played much of that game. I actually played it for few days and was playing multiple player matches. I decided to quit playing it as I thought I might get addicted to this game : )

But the latest sequel of Red Alert seems to have a very good solo campaign. I decided to start playing it but after just few stages, the game failed to work properly.

So I decided to install the latest patch which turned out to be 1.13.

I am using Windows Vista 64 Bit

I thought that this patch will solve this issue. But unfortunately, after installing the patch, I faced yet another problem which seemed to be a more serious issue.

After installing the patch, I tried to load the save games that were saved before any patch was installed.

After you select to load a saved game, a loading screen shows up. In this screen you can see a loading/progress bar.

The problem I faced was that when the game loading bar reached the end, the game simply crashed to desktop. The error that showed up was a common error that we see around a lot : )

Program has stopped responding

Anyway, I tried to find the solution: searched different forums/internet. Many other people seemed to have faced the same issue: different solutions were posted. Some said to update the graphics and sound card drivers: I did that but that failed to solve my issue.

You should too update all the drivers to the latest versions. That may help:

But if that does not solve the issue, then what?

Unfortunately, then we need to start playing the game from the very beginning. Yes, this was the solution that worked for me. I now have played the game for several hours and everything seems to be ok.

All I did was that I started a new campaign: I had to play all the stages again, which I did not mind much, as I had only completed few levels.

So if you have installed the current latest patch: 1.13: and that now your saved games are not working/loading-up, then one of the solutions is to start a new campaign. Start from the scratch : )
